In a recent example, a man charged with keeping a golden eagle at his home has been sentenced to clean the environment for 270 hours as well as installing public ads to raise awareness of natural environment protection.

Last month a young man accused of hurting a dog was assigned to look after injured animals by the court in Gilan province.

The parliament has also started working on an agenda based on which, violence, torture, inflicting intentional harm, unnecessary surgery and amputation have been considered as examples of animal abuse.

Those who are found guilty would face sentences including: imprisonment from six months to two years, financial penalty from 20 million to 80 million Iranian Rials, being deprived of their social rights from six months to five years, seizure of the animal, compelling the convict to pay for medical and hygiene costs of the animal till the time it is moved to a suitable shelter and confiscation of objects and properties which have been used to commit the crime.
