Raeesi urges officials to prepare comprehensive bill on civil rights

In the first meeting with the Central Board of Safeguarding Civil Rights, the newly-appointed head of judiciary said that ensuring people's legitimate freedoms is one of the great privileges of the Islamic Republic.

He also mentioned that freedom is a gift from God to all human beings and the Islamic Republic, considering its Islamic nature and independence which are based on the public vote, has ensured this divine gift through its constitution and other rules.

"The judicial system, according to the constitution, is responsible for protecting legitimate freedoms, administering justice for the public and based on this, the judiciary safeguards different kind of legitimate freedoms such as the freedom of thought and expression and also freedom in the individual and social aspects of people's life. Therefore, the judicial system does not allow anybody to threaten or restrict these legitimate freedoms", he added.

Ayatollah Raeesi also stressed the need to public education for the situation of civil rights to improve. All citizens need to be aware of their civil rights so that no violation of rights would occur, he said.

The head of judiciary also ordered the legal deputy of the judiciary to prepare a comprehensive bill in which all duties of every single governmental body would be defined. He also said that following this a precise and comprehensive act based on scientific standards and new legal concepts would be provided for people and the government and as a result of this, civil rights would be safeguarded more than past.
