HCHR dismisses claims of political prisoner contracting COVID-19
IRAN  - The Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights dismissed claims of a political prisoner contracting COVID-19 in jail.

Answering the questions raised in his meeting with resident ambassadors and Heads of UN missions in Tehran, Ali Bagheri stressed that many news stories are published about the violations of human rights in Iran's prisons, "and most of them are founded to be false."

"Recently, it was claimed that a political prisoner contracted COVID-19 in jail;" Bagheri added. "I personally investigated the cases and found out that the news is totally false.'

A number of foreign ambassadors and diplomats as well as heads of United Nations offices in Tehran (ICRC, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNRC) attended a meeting hosted by the High Council for Human Rights on Wednesday.

In this meeting, the head of the Prisons Organization of Iran and acting director of the Juvenile Court noted the latest efforts of the country to observe "criminal justice" during the outbreak of COVID-19 in Iran.
