Judge Mansouri’s death ambiguous; Judiciary decides based on evidence: HR official

Judge Mansouri’s death ambiguous; Judiciary decides based on evidence: HR official
IRAN  - In an interview with Radio Javan on Friday, Ali Bagheri, the Deputy of International Relations to the Judiciary said the reason why the Iranian judge died in Romania is still in a veil of ambiguity.

According to the news, he was one of the persons accused of economic crimes and due to this reason he had escaped to Europe, Bagheri said.

At first, it was revealed that Mansouri had traveled to a European country with a dark background of human rights violations against the Iranian nation and after Iran demanded for his extradition, no response was received from the mentioned country, Bagheri added.

Then, after a while he reportedly went to Romania and as Iran's Interpol police followed up his case, a Romanian judge ordered his being under custody so that the judicial measures for his extradition could be taken, however, all of a sudden, he was announced dead yesterday.

The Romanian police organization has claimed that he has committed suicide, but Iran's police have asked for the evidence with respect to this claim and also the police are wondering why he had not been protected against such incidents, the HR chief said.

Regarding the speculations on this case, Bagheri stated that the judicial system takes a proper stance with regard to the existing evidence and does not judge such cases merely based on certain curiosities.

"The suspicious aspect of this case is that when Mansouri was in the country which did not cooperate with Iran with respect to his extradition, his life was not endangered but when the process of his extradition began in Romania such an incident took place. These are the vague aspects which need to be made clear through the related documents and evidence provided by the Romanian government", Bagheri said.
