Iran grants furlough regardless of citizenship; official
IRAN  - The Judiciary was asked to grant furlough to imprisoned dual-citizens and political prisoners to protect them from coronavirus infection in prison acoording to the local media.

Later, Iran's Judiciary Spokesman explained the conditions for benefiting from furlough in a live TV program and stressed "citizenship had nothing to do with it."

Many prisoners including the so called "prisoners of conscience" serving time in Iranian prisons have been granted furlough recently. One of them is Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliff a 40-year-old British citizen.

The high-profile dual-citizen is now required to wear an anklet while on furlough, serving a prison term for spying.

Although it is claimed that she was in Iran to visit her family, Boris Johnson, then-UK Foreign Secretary, confirmed she had visited the country for anything but a holiday, shortly after he was forced to take back his words.

"When I look at what Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was doing, she was simply teaching people journalism as I understand it," Johnson told a parliamentary select committee.

Iran also released Kamal Foroughi an 80-year-old British-Iranian business consultant on April 1 and allowed him to go home.

Iran has released tens of thousands of prisoners in recent weeks in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus.
