HCHR stress Truth about gross rights violations by US must be unveiled
IRAN  - Iran's High Council for Human Rights released a statement on the "International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims."

The full statement of High Council for Human Rights on the "International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims" is as follow:

March 24 is called the "International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims". Proclaimed in resolution A/RES/65/196 of the UN General Assembly, the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims is an opportunity to honor the memory of victims of gross and systematic human rights violations and promote the importance of the right to truth and justice and pay tribute to those who have devoted their lives to, and lost their lives in, the struggle to promote and protect human rights for all.

Iranians have faced a brazen violation of their fundamental rights including the right to life and the right to health; a very good example is US unilateral and illegal sanctions which have been in effect for years and have deprived Iranians from all of their human rights. As the coronavirus outbreak has been labelled a pandemic by the World Health Organization and Iran has been hit harder by the virus than any other country in the Middle East, the sanctions are in place and continue to cut the country's access to medicine.

Previously, the unilateral sanctions claimed lives of tens of children who were born with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) since the medical companies which provided protective bandages for such patient's halted supplies due to the restrictions imposed by Washington. US government also applied restrictions that prevented humanitarian aids to reach Iran during crisis like the flood that occurred in 17 March 2019 and 12 November earthquake in 2017; beginning a procedure which is in contrast with International law.

Meanwhile, some other countries including the European governments not only followed US illegal sanctions but also paved the way for new sanctions to be imposed against Iran in 2019. They are, along US, main violators of fundamental human rights.

In addition to the above-mentioned crimes which led to murdering a high number of innocent people in Iran, the targeted assassination of the military commander, General Qasem Soleimani, which was approved by the US criminal president, is another grave and systematic violation of the Iranian nation's rights occurred during the past few years. This assassination was not only a violation of international law principles such as the right to life and the prohibition on the use of force but also it was a clear violation of the Iranian nation's right to have a brave commander and a national hero. Tens of millions of Iranians who took to streets in different cities to attend and respect General Soleimani's funeral, indicated the depth of intimacy and love various groups of people have for this national hero. He was also considered as the greatest symbol of a human rights advocate in the region and his assassination by the US governmental terrorism was a grave violation of the Middle East regional nations' rights in the middle of the fight against the ISIS and terrorism.

Commemorating the International Day for the Right to the Truth, the High Council for Human Rights once again reminds the world that unilateralism and the systematic and grave violation of nations' rights has become a permanent behavior of the US for which the above-mentioned examples illustrate the crimes committed by this country only against Iran.

Remembering the memories of Iranian victims of the US cruel sanctions and those who lost their life for promoting and safeguarding human rights such as General Soleimani, considering its natural duty, the High Council for Human Rights emphasizes that the inaction of other countries, international and regional organizations with regard to systematic and grave violations of human rights, is a serious threat to the definite principles of international human rights law and will also eradicate the aim of the mentioned principles, which is the promotion and protection of human rights.
