Iran HR head slams UNHRC special rapporteur's conduct

Iran HR head slams UNHRC special rapporteur's conduct
IRAN  - Iran's Larijani stressed that the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran must be held responsible for his actions.

Larijani criticized "baseless" resolutions that are passed against Iran every year. "There is no logic or reason behind these resolutions and certainly it is not human rights; no country that holds democratic elections deserves such treatment," he added.

Speaking to a group of human rights advocates in Geneva, he referred to the importance of the countries' cooperation with high commissioner office of human rights but criticized the appointment of a Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran has issued invitations to three thematic mandate-holders and is prepared to receive a visit from them. However, Tehran has been very vocal in expressing its disagreement with the designation of a country-specific human right rapporteur, saying it is an unfair and political measure taken against Iran.

Iran believes that Javid Rahman interviews with TV channels that are undermining Iran's political system, contradicts its mandate. Last March, the High Council for Human Rights has issued a statement "on the false and unreal claims" made by Rahman in BBC.

Larijani stressed that the rapporteur must be held responsible for his actions which in his opinion undermines the UN mandate.
