OIC ambassadors discussed Islamic human rights
IRAN  - Organization of Islamic Cooperation ambassadors gathered on Tuesday in Geneva to discuss UPR periodic reports, the roots of human rights in the Islamic thought and the achievements of Islamic Republic of Iran in promoting the human rights and addressing the distinction between Islamic rationality and the secular and liberal human rights of the western countries.


In this meeting, Iran's Human Rights chief elaborated Iran's achievements in health and women's rights, adding democracy is the main achievement of the Islamic Republic during last forty years.

Stressing that human rights should be based on the country's' culture, Larijani said that the "west dismisses any human rights if it is not based on secular and liberal values."

He criticized some efforts to secularize the documents passed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and once again stressed the importance of considering Islamic measures.

Furthermore, Iraq representative in the meeting praised Iran's efforts in human rights and Lebanon ambassador called Iran a country that respects religious freedom, democracy and social development. Afghanistan ambassador also noted the improvement of human rights standards in Iran, saying it is due to the "considering the cultural values."
