Larijani stresses importance of equal treatment in UPR reviews

Larijani stresses importance of equal treatment in UPR reviews
IRAN  - Larijani stressed that the big obstacle in promoting human rights is it being politicized and abused mostly by the Western countries, adding that Iran's policy is to fight back strongly.

In his meeting with Coly Seck, the President of the Human Rights Council, he added: "We believe in strengthening UPR; and it is very important that equal treatment for every country is ensured when their human rights situations are assessed so some countries won't be able to abuse the opportunity of reviews to politically attack others."

Coly Seck, the President of the Human Rights Council, on his turn, appreciated Iran's efforts and its cooperation with the office of United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Mohammad Mosadegh, Judiciary Deputy for Legal Affairs, Olad Ghobad, Head of the Women's Fraction in the Iranian Parliament and Esmaeil Baghaei Hamaneh, Iran's Permanent Representative to the UN office in Geneva were also present in this meeting that was held on Tuesday.

The Iranian judicial delegation, headed by the chief of Iran's Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani, is set to present the country's third UPR cycle at the 34th session of Universal Periodic Review in Geneva, Switzerland.
