Iran, UN discuss developing satellite cooperation
IRAN  - Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Mohammad Javad Jahromi and Head of United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) Simonetta Di Pippo reviewed promoting cooperation on satellite technology.


Jahromi said that unfortunately, Iran is facing various natural disasters citing the recent floods.

Referring to drought and sandstorms as other examples of natural disasters, Jahromi said that some of them are not limited to Iran so that regional cooperation is required to thwart them.

He also expressed willingness to take advantage of UNOOSA's capacities and international cooperation aiming to receive satellite photos and data for processing and enabling the member states to forecast deadly natural disasters.

Iran has made significant progress in space field, Jahromi said, adding that Iran has put on the agenda to launch a remote sensing satellite and two communications satellites.

He reiterated that all these measures have been in line with developing peaceful activities in space and using advantages of space technology for ordinary people.

Iran is one of the regional centers for space-oriented information for processing to forecast disasters and emergency responses, Jahromi noted.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Iranian minister appreciated UNOOSA's cooperation with regard to recent floods in Iran and called for more cooperation.

Meanwhile, Di Pippo welcomed Iran's proposal to develop cooperation on application of space know-how in line with airspace rights.

She vowed to share UNOOSA capacities with Iran on airspace technology.

Both sides visited exhibit of achievements on satellite technology and a launching system in Vienna.
