3rd EU-UN conference on Syria to be held mid-March
World  - The third EU-UN conference on Syria and the region will be held in Brussels on March 12-14, the UN office in Tehran reported Sunday.

A number of UN agencies, including Under Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock, Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen and High Commissioner for Refugees Filiippo Grandi Will represent the UN at the conference which is titled "Supporting the future of Syria and the region", the statement released by UN Information Center (UNIC) in Tehran read.

'The first two days of the conference on 12 and 13 March will focus on a dialogue with Syrian, regional and international NGOs and civil society organizations,' according to the statement.

It described the Syrian crisis as 'one of the largest humanitarian and protection crises of our times' that have left millions of people in need of 'life-saving assistance'.

'The Syria crisis is far from over. Staggering needs persist, with 11.7 million people in need of humanitarian aid in 2019 inside Syria, and more than 5.6 million Syrian refugees registered in neighbouring countries,' according to the statement.

The UN has called for a $3.4 billion aid for Syrian refugees in 2019.
