Iran’s women lawmakers to chair IPU executive committee
IRAN  -  An Iranian delegation, consisting of women lawmakers, arrived in the Swiss capital on Saturday to attend the 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on October 14-18.

Head of the Iranian delegation, Fatemeh Hosseini, is to chair the executive committee of the 139th IPU gathering, and this the first time an Iranian delegation assumes the chairpersonship.

Elaborating on her plans in Geneva, Hosseini told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that she and her accompanying delegation are to take part in the IPU Assembly, Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade, Standing Committee on Peace and International Security, Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, Standing Committee on United Nations Affairs and Forum of Women Parliamentarians.

The Geneva event is an ample opportunity to activate parliamentary diplomacy, she said.

The lawmaker went on to say that she is due to hold talks with the participating representatives from different world countries on the sidelines of the IPU Assembly.

The 139th Assembly of the IPU is to hold General Debate on the theme of parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change.
