Iran's HCHR launches information portal on Universal Periodic Review mechanism
IRAN  - Iran's High Council for Human Rights (HCHR) has launched a website which serves as an information portal on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Human Rights (HR) issues.

In order to provide information on process of the Universal Periodic Review of Human Rights, as well as to introduce achievements and advancements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in various human rights areas, HCHR's department for international affairs has launched a 'Comprehensive Electronic Information Database' under seven domains both in Persian and English languages.

This portal offers the following data:

- An introduction to the UPR

- Iran's recommendations to other countries in the first round;

- Iran's recommendations to other countries in the second round;

- Iran and the first round of UPR (national report, accepted recommendations and actions taken, statements as well as approvals);

- Iran and the second round of the UPR (national report, accepted recommendations and actions taken, statements as well as approvals);

- Human rights developments in Iran in twenty areas up to the year 2014;

- The UPR interim report on human rights achievements for the third round in 24 areas in 2015 and 2016.

The website can be reached through the following links:

It is worth mentioning that the Human Rights Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism was established by the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2007 with the aim of reviewing the human rights advancement of all UN member states at intervals of four years.

Presently, the third round of reviewing is under way and the Islamic Republic of Iran has submitted and defended its national reports in the first and second rounds, which has been approved by consensus by the Human Rights Council.
