“Human rights not gift from US, West or UN”: Iran’s HR chief

“Human rights not gift from US, West or UN”: Iran’s HR chief
IRAN  - Mohammad Javad Larijani, while stressing that human rights should be based on human dignity bestowed upon all humans by God, said the concept was not a charitable gift from the UN, the US or Western countries.

In an interview with Al Mayadeen television channel, Secretary of Iran's High Council for Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani referred to the dual policies of the West in the field of human rights adding "the human rights campaign presented by the Americans and their European allies are based on hypocrisy, dual standards, racism and selfishness."

"We observe that the US is involved in great crimes of the region, including in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and other countries, but they are still pretending to be defenders of human rights," he said, referring to the crimes of Americans in the region.

Larijani also noted the tie between Saudi Arabian oil dollars and defending human rights, saying that Americans and their Western allies are merely defending the Bahraini dictatorship without providing the people of Bahrain with the slightest assistance.

The head of the Iranian delegation at the thirty-seventh United Nations Human Rights Summit stated "human rights must be based on human dignity that God has given to all human beings and should never be considered as a benevolent gift from the United Nations, the United States and Western countries."

Larijani described America as the most important country in the world and in the world where human rights should be considered; "we believe that human rights in the US must be taken into account more than anywhere else," he underlined.

At another part of his speech, the official criticized the dualistic policies of the West in dealing with human rights explaining "today, being Muslim turned one into a good target for inspecting opinions, if you are a Palestinian supporter, you will be prone to any sort of pressure."

Larijani went on to reiterate that "the US and its European allies are responsible for the crimes that are taking place in Syria, Palestine and Yemen."

He emphasized that the kind of human rights pursued by the Islamic Republic of Iran was free from superstition and dual standards.

On aggressive remarks made against Iran at the UNHRC's meeting in Geneva, the official said "this has been the case since victory of the Islamic Revolution 40 years ago and the major point is for the world to hear the real voice of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
