Iran pursuing conditions of Iranians held in foreign prisons: MP
IRAN  -  Rapporteur of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini expressed concern about the appalling conditions of some nationals held in foreign prisons and said the commission is seriously pursuing their cases.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Naqavi Hosseini said that one of the missions of any delegation from the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission that makes a trip to foreign countries is to pursue the situation of Iranian prisoners in those countries and meet them if possible.

"The commission's members are pursuing the conditions of Iranian prisoners abroad," he said, adding that the follow-ups have led to the release of some of them.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the lawmaker said the conditions of Iranian prisoners in some countries are appalling and worrying, adding that for example, conditions of imprisoned Iranians in Southeast Asia is very frustrating.

He also said some of the nationals have been imprisoned in foreign countries on trumped-up charges leveled by US officials.

In July, Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani called on the US to immediately free Iranian citizens held in its prisons.

"For (about) forty years, the Americans have violated the rights of our people," he said at the time, adding that they have kept innocent citizens of the Islamic Republic in their prisons.

"These moves are illegal and contrary to norms and international laws," the judiciary chief stressed.
