Iran's HR chief condoles demise of Prof. Bassiouni
IRAN  - TEHRAN, Oct. 25 (MNA) - Head of Iran's High Council of Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijiani has expressed condolences to the Italian FM over passing of the prominent scientist, Professor Mahmou Cherif Bassiouni.

In a message to Minister of Foreign and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy Mr. Angelino Alfano, Head of High Council of Human Rights Mohammad Javad Larijani voiced his sympathy and sadness over the demise of Professor Bassiouni.

The full text of Larijani's message is as follows:

The demise of the prominent scientist, Professor Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni, made me feel profoundly sad. He was one of the influential, prominent figures in law and particularly in international criminal law who dedicated his lifetime in serving people and training experts and professional scholars.

Hid death is an irreparable loss for international academic community. Hereby, I send my condolences to the government and the great nation of Italy and May God'd blessings shower upon him and the Almighty give his family patience to bear all this pain.

Mahmoud Cherif Bassiouni was an Emeritus Professor of Law at DePaul University where he taught from 1964 to 2012. He was a founding member of the International Human Rights Law Institute at DePaul University which was established in 1990. Bassiouni is often referred to by the media as 'the Godfather of International Criminal Law' and a 'war crimes expert'.
