Iran delegation off to Geneva for UN Forum on Minority Issues
IRAN  - An Iranian delegation left here Wednesday for Geneva in Switzerland to attend the 9th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council's Forum on Minority Issues slated for November 24-25.

The delegation is led by Deputy Secretary General of High Council for Human Rights and Judicial Cooperation Kazem Gharibabadi.

Representative of the Iranian Assyrian community to the country's parliament (Majlis) Yonathan Betkolia is also a member of the delegation.

Gharibabadi is to address the UN forum to elaborate on Iran's stance on minorities situation during critical conditions and natural disasters.

He also is to meet the UN special rapporteur on minority issues as well as officials at the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner.

According to the UN Office website, pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 6/15 of 28 September 2007 renewed by resolution 19/23 of 23 March 2012, a forum on minority issues has been established to provide a platform for promoting dialogue and cooperation on issues pertaining to national or ethnic, religious and linguistic minorities. The Forum meets annually for two working days allocated to thematic discussions.
