Araqchi says Zarif-Ashton negotiations in Istanbul long but useful
IRAN  - Senior member of Iranˈs nuclear negotiating team, Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton Iran held long but useful discussions in Istanbul to review different approaches for advancing the nuclear talks.



Araqchi, deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, made the remarks in response to a question on the outcome of the two-day talks the Iranian and the EU negotiating teams in Istanbul.

During the session, they agreed to continue with the talks in the political and technical levels before the next round of the nuclear negotiations slated for June 16-20 in Vienna, he said.

Following Vienna IV talks held on May 13-16, when no tangible progress was made, the two sides decided to organize discussions before the upcoming round of the talks. Therefore, Zarif discussed with Ashton on different options to advance the nuclear talks in Istanbul.

Zarif and Ashton held negotiations in the working dinner for two and half hours in Istanbul on May 26. They also continued discussions on Tuesday.

Araqchi met Ashtonˈs deputy, Helga Schmid while Hamid Baeedinejad, Foreign Ministry director general for political and international security talked with Lady Ashtonˈs special aide, Stefan Celement.
