No military solution for Syria: US

No military solution for Syria: US
World  - The White House says there is no military solution for the crisis in Syria despite failure to put an end to the three-year-long unrest in the country.

"The crisis in Syria is a crisis. The circumstances on the ground are horrific that is why we have to bring the parties together to try to compel them towards a negotiated political settlement because there isn't a military solution here," White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters on Friday.

He also acknowledged there was "certainly frustration" that the so-called peace conference about Syria that was held in Geneva had not produced tangible results.

Carney said that "regardless of where we were in the process, the president, as a starting principle on these issues, always tasks his teams, both on foreign policy and domestic, to not be complacent about the path forward."

He added that President Barack Obama is "looking at other options or always asking for all the options that might be available to him."

The White House continues to "recognize that there is no other way to find a political solution."

The spokesman admitted that "significant progress is not being achieved."

Carney said that Obama is "constantly tasking his national security team with the job of evaluating where we are, evaluating what options might be available to him going forward."

On Tuesday, President Obama said "nobody is going to deny that there's enormous frustration here" over events in Syria.

"Right now we don't think that there is a military solution, per se, to the problem," he said. "But the situation is fluid, and we are continuing to explore every possible avenue to solve this problem."
