Russia to shield Syria against US games

Russia to shield Syria against US games
World  - In the UN Security Council disagreements stemming from different interpretations of the Arab League report on Syria are bogging down talks on a proposed resolution.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Tahsin al-Halabi, political commentator, to share his opinion on this issue.

Following is a transcript of the interview:

First of all tell us about the Russian opposition to the drafts that is circulating the UNSC. China has also vetoed the resolution on Syria last year but how far is Russia willing to go with its approach?
I think Russia would have lot reasons that will push her to stick to the same position defending the Syrian position, defending the legitimacy of the regime, defending even the facts that have been already seen to the world by the Arab monitors of the Arab League.

So I think, I estimate that Moscow would not dare or would not choose such position that would leave Syria in the Security Council with those countries that they have already proved that they would like to practice or to execute a kind of conspiracy not against Syria alone but against the Syrian people and the regime and the whole Middle East area, extending even to the [Persian] Gulf, near Iran even.

So I think the position of Moscow would continue keeping on, defending Syria against any resolution that would be harmful to this whole scene of the political arena in the region.

Russia now as certain ministers and certain leaders of Russia declared that they would stick to this position, that they would forbid any harmful resolution from the Security Council against Syria because it would not respect, it would not be contained against Syria alone, it will have precautions, it will have implications on the whole area in such very critical circumstances the whole world is passing.

Mr. al-Halabi, what about the double standard approach the US and its allies have had with regards to events in the region? Why aren't we seeing any solid action taking with regards to Bahrain and what about Yemen's Ali Abdullah Saleh who made his departure for the United States only a week ago?
This fact really proves that all the people, all the powers that would support and defend the Syrian position and the other Iranian and Palestinian resistance position would be in the right side because now there is a split between USA conspiracy and the plan against the whole region and those powerful resistance movements stretching from Hezbollah up to Iran via Syria and via new Iraq even with the Palestinian resistance. What is going on in Bahrain or other areas it is natural double standard policy that USA adopted long time ago.

I think even in Bahrain the situation would be better when those resistance movements, resistance country, Syria, Iran and Hezbollah and the Palestinian resistance would stick together and defend themselves and the area and the interest even of the Arab and Muslim countries whether they in the Gulf States those reactionaries would agree or not, in fact it is a kind of an interest even for the Arab Gulf people when this conspiracy would vanish from the region and specially from the [Persian] Gulf.
